8 unseated MPs to contest Jharkhand assembly poll
Ranchi, Oct 30 (IANS) Eight MPs from Jharkhand, who lost their seats in the April-May 2009 general elections, will contest the coming assembly elections in the state.
The Congress has prepared a list of probable candidates for all the 81 assembly seats and sent it to the party leadership in New Delhi for approval. The list contains the names of four MPs – Chandrashekhar Dubey (Dhanbad), Furkan Ansari (Jamtara), Bagun Sumbarai (Chaibasa) and Rameshwar Oraon (Lohardaga) – who lost their seats in the general election.
According to sources in the Congress, all of them are likely to get the party ticket – especially Dubey and Ansari who are the only ones recommended from their respective constituencies.
Besides the Congress, three former Lok Sabha members of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) – Hemlal Murmu (Rajmahal), Teklal Mahto (Giridih) and Suman Mahto (Jamshedpur) – will also fight the assembly elections, according to JMM leaders.
‘All the three former Lok Sabha MPs who lost the election will fight the assembly poll. They have strong presence in their respective constituencies. Their names will figure in the final list of the party candidates,’ a JMM leader, considered close to party chief Shibu Soren, told IANS.
The Communist Party of India’s (CPI) Bhuneshwar Mehta, who was the MP from Hazaribagh in the last Lok Sabha but lost in 2009, will also contest the assembly poll.
