Alzheimer’s drug to be tested on humans

London, Nov 25 (ANI): A drug that has shown promise in slowing Alzheimer’s disease is set to go on trial in humans.

The experimental drug called dimebon appears to prevent brain-cell death that causes patients to lose their memory.

The year-long trial would involve 1,000 volunteers.

“A cure is still many years away, but treatments that provide lasting effects would offer benefits for both patients and carers,” the Daily Express quoted Dr Fraser Inglis, consultant physician and founder of the Glasgow Memory Clinic as saying.

“There is an urgent need for patients to help us understand how Alzheimer’s can be better treated,” Inglis added. (ANI)
