American scepticism growing on Obama’s Afghanistan war handling

Washington, Oct. 16 (ANI): The disapproval of President Barack Obama’s handling of the Afghanistan war is increasing among Americans, a new poll has revealed.

Forty three percent of Americans now disapprove of the job Barack Obama is doing on Afghanistan against last year’s 32 percent, according to the latest FOX News poll.

Only Democrats view Obama’s Afghanistan handling positively (63 percent), as compared to 20 percent of Republicans and 38 percent of independents.

Obama’s approval rating on the issue, which was 51 percent last month, has gone down to 41 percent.

His plummeting approval ratings have come as a sizable majority of Americans (67 percent) think the Obama administration has not “clearly explained” what the U.S. is trying to achieve there.

Even 54 percent of Democrats hold this view.

However, support for sending additional troops has increased.

Opposition has dropped from 50 percent in mid-September to 46 percent today, while support for the troop increase is up from 41 percent to 46 percent now.

On the question of the next steps in Afghanistan, Americans trust the top commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal (62 percent) more than Obama (22 percent).

Almost six in ten Americans (59 percent) are pessimistic about the prospects for stability in the entire region in which Afghanistan is situated. (ANI)
