Batsmen put Saurashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal on top

New Delhi, Nov 25 (IANS) Dominating performances by batsmen helped Saurashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh to get control of their matches on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Super League fixtures Wednesday.

Riding on centuries from Parvinder Singh (108) and Tanmay Srivastava (109), Uttar Pradesh made a mammoth 536 for seven in a Group B match in Lucknow. In reply, Delhi were nine for no loss at stumps.

At the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Chirag Pathak (118) and Sagar Jogiyani (103) hit centuries as Saurashtra declared their first innings at 650 for nine. In reply, Bengal were 27 for one.

In a group A match in Dharmasala, Tamil Nadu skipper Dinesh Karthik’s decision to declare the innings at 293 for eight backfired as Bhaven Thakkar (83), Vinit Indulkar (71) and Mukesh Sharma (68 n.o.) played crucial knocks to give Himachal Pradesh a first innings lead as they ended the day at 291 for four.
