BRO joins hands with Sikkim Government to improve connectivity

Bardang (Sikkim), Nov 17(ANI): The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and the officials have developed a collective mechanism for protection of environment in the State as Chief Minister Pawan Chamling laid the foundation stone for a ‘cut and cover’ tunnel along National Highway 31A at Bardang here today.

In order to avoid all troubles along the highway and provide a smooth traffic along National Highway 31 A through out the year, Project Swastik which looks after the road connectivity of the state has taken up a number of cases before the State government.

Project Swastik has been in the state since 1960 and is even referred to as ‘Shaan-e-Sikkim’ (Pride of Sikkim), said Brigadier Patyal.

“The state has formed a good committee in which on day to day basis we function with them and any problems are resolved in that coordinating committee. Hence the working is far better, that’s why all the troubled spots which were pending for the last 15-20 years are now solved as we have now formed a scientific group which goes on ground with the help of zoologists. We look for short term and long term solutions and we are working on that and in the next 2-3 years you will see all long term goals on ground like bridges, tunnels and wire ducts,” said Army Brigadier R K Patyal.

The ‘cut and cover’ structure proposal has been conceptualized by Project Swastik as an enduring solution to the difficult stretch along National Highway 31A at Bardang here.

The endeavor of the BRO in providing good road connectivity draws applause from the State government and the residents.

“All the roads present in Sikkim are the lifelines of the state.

Today Sikkim has a made a name for itself, people outside are aware of its existence. Many VVIPs, VIPs and tourists visit this place frequently. It would be a great achievement for the BRO and the state if the roads are constructed nicely and on time,” said Chief Minister Pawan Chamling. (ANI)
