Chidambaram flags off non-stop Chennai-Delhi train

Chennai, Sep 21 (IANS) Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram Monday flagged off the non-stop Duronto Express from Chennai to Hazrat Nizamuddin in New Delhi.

The train started its 28-hour journey 6.40 a.m. Monday after Chidambaram waved green flag here for the Duronto Express. It is likely to reach Delhi 10.40 a.m. Tuesday.

The home minister said the railway ministry has agreed to increase the frequency of the train to twice a week. At present, it runs once a week.

Duronto Express has AC 2 and 3 tier coaches and a passenger capacity of 896. The advanced booking till Sunday night was for around 390 seats.

Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced the launch of Duronto Express while presenting the budget early this year.
