Cocaine worth Rs.10 crore recovered in Punjab
Ludhiana, Nov 28 (IANS) High quality cocaine worth Rs.10 crore (Rs.100 million) in the international market was recovered by the Punjab police at Sahnewal town, 15 km from here, police said Saturday.
The 1-kg drug haul was made from a man and a woman, both belonging to Haryana, while they were travelling in a bus from the neighbouring state towards Amritsar city.
Ludhiana district police chief S.S. Gill said that two people, Soma and Sita, both from Haryana, have been arrested and further investigation was in progress to identify the person who was supposed to receive the drugs.
Cocaine is an expensive cocktail drug, mainly preferred by the rich due to its high cost.
Punjab is a major transit and delivery point for drugs, especially consignments coming from Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The state has a 553-km long border with Pakistan through which drug smuggling takes place despite a barbed wire fence and strict vigil by security forces.
