Hurriyat calls for two-day Bandh ahead of PM, Sonia visit to Kashmir
Srinagar, Oct.24 (ANI): A faction of Hurriyat Conference led by separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Saturday gave a call for a two-day closure starting Tuesday (Oct. 27) ahead of the expected visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi.
Dr. Singh and Sonia Gandhi are expected to inaugurate a 12-kilometer railway line linking Islamabad and Qazigund, both in Indian administer Kashmir, on October 28.
“He (Manmohan Singh) is coming as the Prime Minister of India, and she (Sonia Gandhi) as the Chief of the Congress party. And their government, their troops deployed here are committing atrocities. And these people are responsible for all this. So it becomes our responsibility to stage a protest against the atrocities,” Geelani told a news conference in State’s main city, Srinagar. (ANI)
