Lawless Pak-Afghan border region epicenter of terrorism: Clinton
Washington, Sep.22 (ANI): The United States has reiterated that the lawless tribal areas along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border were the epicenter of terrorism.
In an interview to a private television channel, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton highlighted that the region along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border was the ‘focal point’ of terrorism.
Clinton expressed concern over the Taliban gaining control in the region, and said that if they get control over Afghanistan again, then Al-Qaeda will stage a come back.
“If Taliban again gets control over Afghanistan, then one could not imagine how swiftly Al Qaeda would be back,” The News quoted Clinton, as saying.
This is not the first that top US diplomats have expressed their concerns over the region. Several top American leaders have described the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region as the epicenter of terrorism in the recent past.
It may be noted that Clinton had recently termed Pakistan as a ‘terror safe haven’, saying that Al-Qaeda’s leadership was based in that country. (ANI)
