Greater Noida, Nov 5 (IANS) A man killed his brother and shot at his nine-month pregnant sister-in-law who came to rescue him, injuring her seriously and killing her unborn child in Doom Manikpur area under Badalpur police station of Greater Noida late Wednesday night, police said Thursday.

According to police, Amit Rawal objected to the daily drinking of his younger brother, Manoj. Late Wednesday night when Manoj entered the house heavily drunk, Amit scolded him, triggering a heated argument. Manoj then took a pistol from his pocket and fired at his brother, killing him on the spot.

Hearing the shot, his sister-in-law Bhawna came to rescue her husband and Manoj shot at her twice, one of the bullets entering her womb and killing the foetus. It was her first pregnancy. Manoj then fled the spot.

Neighbours informed the police, which rushed both Amit and his wife to Yashoda Hospital at Ghaziabad where doctors pronounced Amit dead and conducted an emergency operation on the woman, taking the dead foetus out.

The doctors at the hospital told that the woman was critical and had been kept in ICU under observation after the successful operation. Both bullets have also been taken out of her body, they added.

‘After killing his brother and critically injuring his sister-in-law Manoj fled the spot. Our foremost task was to save their lives, so we rushed them to hospital. Our policemen also donated blood to save the life of the woman. A case against Manoj has been registered and hunt has been launched to arrest him,’ said Greater Noida Superintendent of Police S.K.Verma.

‘Both brothers were living together. Their father had died two years back and mother about 15 years back. Manoj was nurtured by his sister-in-law Bhawana, at whom he shot. It was the first pregnancy of her life,’ Verma added.
