Nasty “impromptu C-section” causes pregnant shark to give birth!

Melbourne, Nov 12 (ANI): A pregnant shark prematurely delivered four babies after another shark attacked and bit into its belly.

According to the New Zealand Herald, the incident occurred before visitors at Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World in Auckland.

An aquarium spokeswoman said visitors informed the staff when they saw the attack and ‘things’ entering the waters from the gaping wound.

Although, the staff were initially doubtful, they found to their surprise that four baby sharks had emerged from the opening of the mother’s wound.

When a vet came to stitch the mother’s wound another four sharks were found.

Staff at the aquarium said the deep bite was had acted like an “impromptu C-section” letting out babies.

Kelly Tarlton’s aquarist Fiona Davies told the New Zealand Herald it was common for sharks to bite each other, but it was the first time she had come across anything like this, reports News.com.au.

She added that the unexpected birth had saved the baby sharks from being devoured by adult sharks and stingrays as the staff had removed them from the tank in time. (ANI)
