No state is completely free of clashes: West Bengal

Kolkata, Nov 30 (IANS) Asserting that no state was free of clashes, the West Bengal government Monday said that it always took prompt action to defuse political violence, even as a central team arrived on a fact-finding mission regarding the recurrent political clashes in the state.

On a day a union home ministry team reached here on a fact-finding mission, Chief Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty pointed out that sporadic clashes occurred in all states.

‘There is not a single state which is completely free of clashes. Sporadic clashes take place in every state,’ Chakraborty said.

He said the state has witnessed clashes in the recent past as there were political parties in conflict with one another. ‘At the same time, the police and the administration have always taken prompt action.’

Chakraborty said the state has not prepared any report for the central team that arrived in the state capital Monday evening. ‘If they want to see the police report, they are most welcome. But we have not prepared any report for handing over to them.’

Chakraborty said the state had no idea about the areas the central team wanted to visit. ‘See, we have not initiated the team’s programmes. The central government officers have to tell us what they want to know or see for themselves.’
