Original King Kong model fetches $200K at auction
Washington, November 25 (ANI): The original “King Kong” model used in the 1933 film has been sold for about 200,000 dollars at an auction in London.
The steel and metal alloy armature was sold as part of Christie’s auction of pop culture memorabilia.
The metal armature less than 2 feet tall had been used in the film’s climax.
The scene showing the King Kong climb to the top of the Empire State Building was made possible through the figurine.
The metal skeleton was covered in cotton, rubber, liquid latex and rabbit’s fur. However, the covering had torn off over the years.
RKO Studio’s Miniature Department had built the model designed by master animator Willis O’Brien, reports CBS News.
Posters and props from many other classic films, including ‘Star Wars,’ ‘Alien,’ were sold at the event too. (ANI)
