Seven arrested for robberies on Orissa highway
Jagatsinghpur (Orissa), Nov 30 (IANS) Seven men have been arrested for attacking passengers on an Orissa highway and robbing them at gun point, police said Monday.
The men were Sunday arrested from different places in Jagatsinghpur, 74 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.
‘The men have been targeting passengers on the Cuttack-Paradip state highway over the past several months and have been accused of snatching gold ornaments from women, attacking travellers and looting them of cash and other valuable items,’ a senior police officer told IANS.
‘They have confessed that they were involved in more than a dozen of crimes,’ he said.
The men have been identified as Bijya Sethy, Amar Patra, Kanhu Marandi, Gopal Hansada, Bulu Murmu, Surendra Samal and Askhya Sahoo.
