Shia panel to announce national policy Oct 25
Lucknow, Oct 14 (IANS) The All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB) Wednesday said it will announce a National Policy for Shias (NPS) Oct 25 in New Delhi.
‘The AISPLB will announce the NPS for the first time at its annual convention in New Delhi Oct 25. Keeping in view the non-representation of five crore (50 million) Shia Muslims of the country in parliament and other issues, we have decided to announce a national policy for all Shias residing in the country,’ Moulana Mirza Mohammad Athar of the AISPLB told reports here.
‘We (Shias) have been kept politically isolated by respective governments and political parties since independence and we would be demanding reservation of seats in parliament just like the Dalits and women have their share,’ he added.
‘Besides, considering our backwardness, the government should also think of providing us reservations in government jobs,’ Athar added.
The AISPLB also demanded restoration of subsidy given to the Shias for pilgrimage to Iran and Iraq.
‘We (Shias) were given a handsome subsidy till the 1970s after which it was withdrawn. Besides, we will also pass a resolution condemning terrorist activities in India and other parts of the world with suggestions to stop such activities,’ he added.
