Roadside bombing kills seven soldiers in Pakistan

Islamabad, Oct 31 (DPA) At least seven soldiers were killed and about a dozen injured Saturday when a bomb exploded near a troop vehicle in Pakistan’s restive tribal region near the Afghan border, an official said.

The vehicle was carrying supplies for the paramilitary troops when a remote-controlled roadside bomb was detonated in Khyber district.

Eleven militants, one soldier killed in Pakistan

Islamabad, Oct 3 (DPA) Eleven militants and a soldier were killed Saturday in clashes in the northwestern tribal region of Pakistan that borders Afghanistan, a security official said.

Fazal-ur-Rehman, a spokesman for the paramilitary Frontier Corps, said in a statement that the fighting took place during a security operation in Gurgray area of the Khyber region.

Iraq arrests 52 Al Qaeda members

Baghdad, Sep 21 (Xinhua) Iraqi authorities detained 52 Al Qaeda members Monday, a police source said.

The source told reporters that the Al Qaeda members detained in the town of Jurf al-Sakhar, about 30 km south of Baghdad, were behind a series of terrorist attacks against Iraqi security forces as well as civilian targets.
