720,000 tonnes of coal annually smuggled in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Jan 2 (IANS) Illegal coal mining is rampant in Jharkhand, with around 720,000 tonnes of the mineral being smuggled every year and causing a massive revenue loss of up to Rs.600 crore, an official said Saturday.

Around 18,000 people are involved in the illeggal mining activities, transporting the coal on cycles, the official added.

Coal India raises price by 11 percent

Coal production up 9.9 percent in first half
