Vehicles mysteriously set afire outside Chandigarh slum

Chandigarh, Nov 25 (IANS) Five vehicles were set on fire under mysterious circumstances, right in front of their owners’ homes at a rehabilitated slum cluster here Wednesday, police said.

One car, a lorry and a jeep were completely gutted while two other cars were burnt more than 50 percent at the Mauli Jagran neighbourhood, police said.

‘We have registered a case against unknown people and started investigations. We have recorded the statements of eye witnesses but nobody is clear about the source of the fire,’ Partap Singh, investigating officer of the case, told IANS.

‘All the vehicles belonged to different people and were parked at some distance from each other. It seems to be a case of personal rivalry but it is too early to reach any conclusion,’ he added.
