London, Nov 21(ANI): British tennis player Andy Murray has said that winning in tennis is much more important to him, and that he is not motivated by the money that is on offer.
The highest-ranked British player since Fred Perry has won 2.25-million pounds in prize money this year, and also stands to bank another one million pounds if he wins all five matches at the World Tour Finals starting Sunday at London’s O2 Arena.
“There’s a lot of money to be won, but it’s funny, because when you’re playing, that doesn’t cross your mind at all. It just comes with winning,” The Sun quoted Murray, as saying.
Murray further said that the World Tour Finals is the most competitive tournament of the year.
“I’d say it’s just behind the Grand Slams. You have to win four or five matches against the top players in the world. You might even have to beat the No 1 and the No 2 in the world twice to win it,” Murray said.
“So, I’m obviously going to have to play great to get to the final. I’m sure all the players are proud of qualifying for the year-end championships,” he added.
He also said that he does have the ability to beat top players and would like to include his name in the list of stars, who have won one of the prestigious tournaments.
“It’s a big thing for everyone. If you look at the guys who have won the competition it’s pretty much the greatest players ever who have won it, so it’s great to be a part of it,” Murray said.
“I’m playing Roger in the group matches and it’s good. I’ve won against him before so I think I can do it again,” he added. (ANI)
