Zirconium complex goes on stream in Tuticorin
Tuticorin, Nov 27 (IANS) Atomic Energy Commission chairman Anil Kakodkar Friday inaugurated a zirconium complex set up by the Department of Atomic Energy to manufacture zirconium oxide and zirconium sponge.
The new complex is part of the DAE’s nuclear fuel complex.
‘The plant has the capacity to make 500 tonnes of zirconium oxide and 250 tonnes of reactor grade zirconium sponge annually,’ Kakodkar said.
The products are used for manufacturing zirconium alloy components for nuclear reactors.
According to Kakodkar, the plant may look at export opportunities for zirconium oxide and sponge after meeting the domestic demand.
